Baltisse takes another step in renewable energy with the establishment of Spark Power: a fresh, new breeze in the energy landscape. Spark Power focuses on local electricity production through the development, construction, and operation of wind farms in Europe.
The energy transition is imperative. To achieve the EU target of 42.5% renewable energy by 2030, at least 420 GW of wind energy must be installed by 2030. By the end of 2023, the count stood at approximately 205 GW. This means that an average of 30-40 GW of wind energy must become operational each year. In 2023, only 17 GW of new wind turbine capacity came into operation across Europe – thus, an acceleration is necessary.
Nevertheless, Europe provides support, such as through the Renewable Energy Directive and the Wind Power Action Plan, which, combined with a determined approach, offers opportunities to realize this potential. "Secure homegrown energy: the EU objectives are clear. It is good news that a Belgian and highly experienced investor is taking up this challenge. With this support, there are certainly still opportunities in the EU that can be converted into operational wind farms," says Ineke Holvoet and Geert Maris, responsible for international expansion within Spark Power.
Currently, Spark Power is building a team of enthusiastic individuals who, driven by a deep conviction for the green energy transition and local energy production, are not shying away from any challenge to help realize this ambition. People make the difference: a fresh and clear perspective on this complex energy trajectory is essential.
Driven by innovation and the fight against climate change, Spark Power focuses on green electricity production. Spark Power specializes in local electricity production through the development, construction, and operation of wind farms in Europe. In doing so, Spark Power collaborates with all stakeholders to develop solutions in consultation with residents, environmental organizations, and governments, aiming for a win-win situation. The vision is clear: to build a future where energy generation and environmental care are in balance.
For Baltisse, this is not the first step in renewable energy. Baltisse previously invested successfully in Origis, which grew into a developer of solar parks in the US and Europe. With Spark Power, Baltisse emphasizes its commitment to driving meaningful change towards a greener and more sustainable future. "The energy transition requires investors to fully support the necessary energy transition. We at Baltisse have contributed to this in the past and want to continue to do so. After previous steps with Origis in solar energy, we now want to maximize the immense potential of onshore wind energy with Spark Power," says Benjamin Biesmans.
